THE DIARY OF ANATOLIOS

DAY I

Dear Diary,

Ten years have now passed- many have been sacrificed and many lives have been spent. At last, we now have the Palladium- the key to our success. Yesterday, secretly, one of us sneaked through the city of Troy to steal the Palladium and fortunately, we have acquired it without the Trojans even noticing it. We hope that Helenus is right, that we would win the battle against Troy if we have everything that he has said- Pelop's bones, to persuade Neoptolemus to fight for us and to get the Palladium .

A few days ago, we have sent Odysseus to King Lycomedes' court in Scyros to retrieve Neoptolemus, and also, we have already successfully retrieved Pelop's bones. With these requirements being successfully acquired, we hope that after ten long years, Troy will burn down to the grounds.

DAY 2

Dear Diary,

The end of the war came with one final plan. Odysseus devised a new ruse—a giant hollow wooden horse, an animal that was sacred to the Trojans. It was built by Epeius and guided by Athena, from the wood of a cornel tree grove sacred to Apollo, with the inscription:
The Greeks dedicate this thank-offering to Athena for their return home.

I hope that this plan will work. I will be one of the soldiers who will be inside the wooden horse together with Odysseus, and the others will sail to Tenedos.

DAY 3

Dear Diary,

This is the day that we've been all waiting for, the day of the destruction of Troy. The day when the Achaeans win over the battle with the Trojans. We are all nervous, but fear has no room in our hearts now that our anticipated victory has come near.

The Trojans thought that we were gone, believing that the war is over. We left Sinon at Troy, and we, are here inside the wooden horse, hoping that Odysseus' plan will work. There is no time to make mistakes. We should win this war.

DAY 4

Dear Diary,

It's already midnight. Hours ago, King Priam believed Sinon's lies even if Both Cassandra and Laocoön warned against keeping the horse. Poseidon saved us. Now, we are here, killing Troy's sleeping population. Shedding blood all over the city- ALL FOR REVENGE. We can see that the Trojans are now filled with desperation. Yet I admire their courage to fight back fiercely knowing that the possibility of their survival is very minimal.

With the fighting at its height, some donned fallen enemies' attire and launched surprise counterattacks at us in the chaotic street fighting. Other defenders hurled down roof tiles and anything else heavy down on the rampaging attackers. The outlook was grim though, and eventually the remaining defenders were destroyed along with the whole city.

DAY 5

Dear Diary,

We won the long time war against the Trojans. We are one victorious race! Neoptolemus killed Priam, who had taken refuge at the altar of Zeus of the Courtyard. Menelaus killed Deiphobus, Helen's husband after Paris' death, and also intended to kill Helen, but, overcome by her beauty, threw down his sword and took her to the ships. We then burned the city and divided the spoils. Cassandra was awarded to Agamemnon. Neoptolemus got Andromache and Odysseus was given Hecuba, Priam's wife, while I want nothing else but to return to our homeland and be with my family.

The gods were very angry over the destruction of their temples and other sacrilegious acts by us, and decided that most would not return home. A storm fell on the returning fleet off Tenos island. Additionally, Nauplius, in revenge for the murder of his son Palamedes, set up false lights in Cape Caphereus and many were shipwrecked. We will have to sail ten years before we can come back home. Even though we have to face this misfortune, I am thankful for the fact that I am still here, alive and sharing you this experience of mine.

In this war, I have learned a lot of things, and of those is to never give up in times of trouble and to never be afraid in facing our individual fears because even if there are gods above us, we still make our own decisions and should be man enough to face its consequences.
